About the shop

A small woodshop in Lakemoor, Illinois, devoted to one very specific thing.

I built my first pergola swing for my mother's back porch in 2014. She still uses it every evening. Somewhere between then and now, this became the whole job.

Grove & Bough is a two-person shop on IL-120 in Lakemoor, Illinois. We build pergola swings, swing beds, and arbor canopies โ€” and, on purpose, nothing else. When you make one thing for long enough, you stop making the small mistakes.

We use rough-sawn cedar and white oak, marine-grade rope, and stainless hardware. Every joint is drawn before it's cut. Every swing is test-hung in the shop with a 300-lb bag before it ever ships. If a screw is going to loosen in year three, we want to hear it grind now.

Come by if you're near the Chain O' Lakes. There's usually a swing on the porch and coffee on โ€” we're open daily until 9 PM.

What we believe

Four rules we don't break.

One thing, done right.

We build pergola swings. Not fences, not decks, not pergolas without swings. Depth beats breadth.

Fixed prices, in writing.

You get a real number after the sketch. Change orders are signed, not sprung on you at the end.

Real materials.

Rough-sawn cedar and white oak, marine rope, stainless hardware. No pressure-treated pine dressed up in stain.

We come back.

Seasonal re-oiling and hardware checks are part of the deal. If a swing creaks in year four, that's our creak to fix.
